Clean Eating Stripped Down

Clean eating or Eat Clean Diet, what do these words mean, why you want to start and how to get started without putting your family and your budget into shock. Clean eating is not some new fancy fad diet. It is a lifestyle. It is very healthy, very 'green' and very beneficial to your fat loss/muscle building plan.

Basically the foods that our bodies need are proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Proteins are broken down into amino acids that are used for muscle development, growth and repair. Carbohydrates and fats are the fuels the body needs to perform (PERIOD). All functions in the body (physical, neurological, hormonal, etc) need fuel from carbohydrates in order to happen. Carbs have gotten a bad reputation because we think of pasta, bread, baked goods, and candy as carbs. They are indeed HIGH in carbs. But they are not the carb fuel your body was designed to process. Vegetables, fruit and whole grains are carbs. You need these in your diet. The word 'whole grains' trips people up because manufactures put those words on EVERYTHING these days.

So, how do you know it a food is a 'clean' food source? Here is a simple way to remember it . . . If it swims, flies, runs, walks, grows on a plant, requires food, sunlight and oxygen to exist, it is a clean food. Good health and a radiant life come from living things. We will break that down in a minute. Basically when you look at an ingredient list, if you read it out loud to your four year old you should be able to tell them what each of those items it and why it is in the food. Your natural peanut butter should say Peanuts (period). You cereal should say, oats, flaxseed, water, pumpkin seed, honey, etc They should be the words that say what food is. Not preservatives, artificial sweeteners, stabilizers, etc.

You really do only need to shop the perimeter of a store and maybe go down two isles in the grocery store. I promise. It is not that hard to do. Our ancestors did that in the not to distant past. Grandma didn't depend on Betty Crocker and she knew how to grow a potato. The more convenient our food supply has come, the more disconnected we have become with making healthy choices.

Let's shop the perimeter. In the produce section, buy fruit that is in season to keep from breaking your budget. When you need strawberries in the winter and they don't fit in the budge, buy frozen unsweetened strawberries. In the winter I also buy canned tomatoes. Veggies are usually more reasonably priced year around. Sweet potatoes are an amazing super food and are very economical. Some items that go into my cart every week are fresh broccoli (frozen is gross tasting once you have had the good stuff), fresh spinach (ditto the before statement), onions, peppers, kale, sweet potatoes, zucchini squash, celery, Fuji apples, blueberries, strawberries, mushrooms, cilantro and an avocado or two.

In the deli section they do have one brand of turkey breast and chicken breast I will get that has low sodium, no fillers or preservatives. Bread isle I skip . . . if it can sit on a shelf for a week without turning green it has been way to processed to be in my body. I do get Ezekiel bread (it is in the freezer section and must be kept in the fridge or freezer because it has living wheat sprouts, whole germ foods in it). I go down the cereal isle to pick up a granola that is low in fat, high in protein and low in carbs (Bear Naked High Peak Protein). I also pick up Old Fashioned Rolled Oats, Rough Cut Oats, and Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Hot Cereal Mix. In the canned foods section I get albacore tuna, black beans, tomatoes, green chilis and any other bean I need for the week. I get the low sodium kind and still rinse and soak them very well. Frozen foods I get frozen mango, strawberry, blueberry, Ezekiel bread and a couple veggie mixes to keep on hand for those rush nights. Dairy section, this is my weakness! Eggs (lots of them), plain non-fat yogurt, greek yogurt 0% plain, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, and almond milk. Oh, I almost forgot the nuts and seeds!!! I love pecans, walnuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and brazil nuts. You want to get the raw nuts, not roasted. Roasted nuts are coated in oil and then roasted. Nuts already have a natural oil and fat content, we don't need the added fats. Dry roasted do not have oil added, but check the label and see what they did add. You just want the nuts or seeds. Believe me, once you cleanse your palate of all the over processed sugary things you have grown accustomed to eating, you will love raw nuts.

The spice isle is also a very fun isle for me, but I don't have to go down it often because I own one of everything that is on that isle. I love having oatmeal in the morning with half of a Fuji apple chopped up in it, a few walnuts chopped, and a little apple pie spice and a splash of vanilla added to my almond milk. I cook the oatmeal, then add the apple, walnuts, spices and almond milk, then I pop it back in the microwave for one minute so it tastes like warm apple pie.

Even though the ingredients are simple, eating clean does not have to be boring. I don't keep pasta around, even the whole wheat healthier stuff, because portion control on pasta is difficult for me. But, for a family whole wheat pasta for dinner is an awesome option. Try this. Make a whole wheat pasta (read your label, make sure you can pronounce all the ingredients and you know what they are), Steam some fresh broccoli until tender, chop it up and toss it into your pasta. Chop up some grilled chicken breast and toss it into the pasta. mix plain 0% greek yogurt with some freshly grated parmesan cheese and your favorite blend of spices (I like Italian herbs). Use this as a cheese sauce on the pasta. If you family doesn't like broccoli, don't try to win them over to clean eating and broccoli at the same time. I love this dish made with zucchini, bell peppers, onion and mushrooms. . . mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Delicious!

When you buy yogurt, get the plain stuff and add what you want to it. Fresh fruit, granola, and cinnamon or honey, etc. If you buy it already flavored, they have to put sugars and stabilizers in there to preserve the fruit. Get plain.

To keep clean eating economical, keep a well stocked pantry of your staples, whole grains (farro, brown rice, oats, quinoa, cous cous), canned tomatoes, beans, granola. Buy your yogurts plain and low fat. Buy proteins in bulk, cook them up all at once and freeze part of it. It will save you time and money. Construct you menu plans for the week to utilize the fruits and veggies that are in season or that take advantage of a super saver deal.

Don't through your family into shock by announcing that you are changing the way they eat. Just try some of your family favorites in a cleaner healthier style. If they make a comment, let them know you are looking at healthier ways for them to enjoy their favorites and stay healthy and strong. It is a treat to take care your body and invest in your health.

Back to the clean vs. unclean on the meat/protein item. Although there is a place for all meat sources, you want to use wisdom here. Red meat is higher in saturated fats, so you want to limit your consumption to twice a week. Pork loin is a lean cut, stay away from sausages (what all is in that?) . Salmon is an excellent source of protein and healthy fat, again limit your portion size and how often you have it. Preferred sources of protein are chicken breast, turkey, white fish, tuna.

There ya go, I think I hit all the perimeter of the grocery store and hope I have demystified some of the questions you may have had about clean eating. I have gotten some questions about how to make the switch for families with a husband or kids that may be picky. I hope some of this helps. My husband eats what I do for the most part. He still prefers white rice and he makes a rice cooker full of it for the week and keeps it in the fridge. He also loves Triscuit crackers and Cheez its. He keeps those on hand. I keep a cabinet with my clean, healthy go to snacks. So, I just keep in mind that those are HIS choices, I don't want them. For children, I would say, you are the adult. Make the healthiest choices for your families health you can. I would not under any circumstances buy my children yogurts that are blue or red and filled with things that I KNOW are unhealthy and tell them to enjoy it. I can't. I wouldn't. I couldn't. I would buy plain yogurt and teach them how to dress it up special just for them. Fresh strawberries, a little granola. Or since children do like sweetness a little honey, some raisins and some seeds. Make it fun, make it special, they deserve the good stuff and so do you!

One of my favorite snacks! Berries and nuts!

Stripped on New Titles!

LOL!!! Sorry, I'm not so creative today! I had a fabulous day yesterday!

Must be all this clean eating!

I have been running myself ragged for the past week. So yesterday my hubby 'challenged' me to just come home after work and make time to relax. . . . ummmmmm, yea. That's hard for me. But, I wanted to spend some time with him when I wasn't exhausted. So, I used my lunch time to get in my weight lifting. Since it was back and shoulders I knew I could do it without getting all sweaty and stinky. I would normally do a HiiT session with my upper body workout, but opted to skip it for the day.

I was not feeling so awake and with it in the morning and really did not want to go to the gym at noon. I kept thinking . . . "by the time I get to the gym, change clothes, get out my training journal, set up, etc I won't have much time to get a workout in before I have to repack my bag, change clothes, freshen up and get back to my desk".

BUT, I said I would, so I did.

I'm glad I did! There were only a couple people in the gym! I was able to set up my stations and get through a four exercise circuit with 4 sets of 12 each in a short time. So, I started another circuit of three exercises of 3 sets of 10. Finished up with some walkouts and push ups.

After my workout I felt fabulous! Energized and focused! I think I will do that on Wednesdays for now on!

After work I went home, cleaned up the kitchen so I could start dinner. I actually like organizing my kitchen and cooking, so this doesn't feel like work . . . but it does take time.

I mixed up some ground bison with some seasonings, chopped up my sweet potatoes, leeks, and carrots, put them in some foil with some macadamia oil, rosemary and cinnamon! So delicious!

Now that I am talking about food, let's see some yummy clean foods!

Breakfast was that yummy oatmeal with mango, unsweetened coconut, almond milk and pecans!!! So, so, so delicious! Sorry, no pic today!

Morning snack was hardboiled eggs and mixed fresh berries

LUNCH!!!! Shrimp Ceviche with avocado! mmmmmmmmmm!

Afternoon snack was albacore tuna with a pear chopped up in it! You need to try it! Love them together!

Dinner!!! Bison burger w/grilled veggies! Super nice!

I opted to not drink my night time casein shake because the optional snack for the night was an apple and almonds! YUM! Sweet yummy fruit!

That was my delicious day!

Thank you to all who voted for me today in the Performing Beautifully contest on Facebook! When I was sent the link and filled out the entry form, I was really excited because the essay questions were about the network of people you inspire and who inspire you. What keeps you motivated and how do you keep momentum. It was only after I submitted the entry that I realized it was one of those 'popularity' contests where your friends vote for you. I was bummed at first because I don't do things to be popular or to be liked by others. I do things that are right for me and help me in my growth and development. I do things that get me closer to my dreams and encourage others to do the same. I would like to win the prize, believe me, I want it. Here is why I want it. I am not a fitness model, I am not a bikini competitor, I am not a bodybuilder . . . I am an every day person who started this journey to save her life, lower her blood pressure and not have to think about my young sons breaking their backs trying to carry my coffin. Sorry, sounds harsh, but it is true. I want to win to show that life does not end at 40, you don't have to be model thin to succeed, and your best days are yet to come!

Whether you vote for me or not, I encourage you to set huge goals, reach for what you want and dare to step out of your comfort zone.

Live beautifully!!! You only get one chance to be you! In this moment, on this day, vow to be your best self and you will win every day!

Strong Stripper

Today I had the busiest day I have EVER had!!! I literally did not have a moment to do anything other than my job! During my lunch break I usually blog, but today I read one blog and spent the rest of the time taking care of the customer requests. I ate lunch at my desk, which I usually do anyway. I don't think I did a food blog yesterday so, I will put a up the pictures that I have taken over the last two days.

Monday Breakfast:
Love it! Be the Master of Your Frittata! I picked Farro, had leftover yellow squash, onion, and orange bell pepper. I decided to use the ingredients to make an Asian inspired stir fry veggie and farro bowl, topped with egg whites and one whole egg over easy. This is one of my favorite breakfast styles.

Yummo! What is not to love about that combination?!

Monday Morning Snack:

Chopped up Fuji apple with almonds, so sweet, crunch, satisfying!

Monday Lunch:

Baked chicken breast, raw spinach, with onions, tomato, black beans & lemon!

Monday Afternoon Snack:

Two hard boiled eggs and celery a la Carolyn style! I chopped them up into my salad bowl from lunch which had a little residue of tomato, onion, lemon and black bean. Super idea! So glad I thought of it! It was yummy!!!

Monday Dinner:

Dinner was about using what I had to meet the requirement. Menu said Turkey, steamed broccoli and brown rice. I had a grilled chicken breast, steamed cauliflower and farro. I mixed it all together. I sprinkled it with nutritional yeast.

All and all a yummy day!

Tuesday morning my beloved oatmeal was back on the menu!

Rough cut oats w/cinnamon and a chopped Fuji apple
I also had 4 scrambled egg whites

Go Green Smoothie! A little chunky today, but still yummy! Mix of parsley, kale, pineapple, avocado, almond milk, fresh ginger

Lunch today was cream of leek and potato soup and a grilled chicken breast

Yummy Pick Me Snack of chopped strawberries and cashews

After work my hubby and went for a 3 mile run. Hills, lots of them! It felt rough near the end, but we had a good pace. I was STARVING when I got home. My hubby started dinner while I went and soaked in the tub. Unfortunately, that means that he put on a pot of white rice. I did have a little farro leftovers in the fridge but, it was the butternut squash risotto . . . I was hungry and it was mine. Tilapia was substituted for the trout and brussel sprouts took the place of broccoli! Very yummy, very satisfying. . . had to be creative, but I think I did okay.

There is the Stripper plan for the past two days. Now to the strong part. Today I had to reassure my mommy that I was a strong girl and she didn't have to worry about me ever using food to drown my fears or feelings. See, my mommy is a super strong lady who doesn't like others to see her cry or to know that she is afraid. I had a feeling over our last few phone calls that she has been holding back her fears and feelings about the tests that she has had to have to examine some spots on her lungs. I know, I can feel it, she is afraid. Who wouldn't be. My mom is also super proud of me and all the opportunities available to me and doors that are opening for me. I wanted my mom to know that no matter what the test results show, I am here for her, I am strong, and she can lean on me. I won't fall apart. I know who I am, I know my purpose, my passion and no amount of fear or sadness can undo that or derail me. Whatever this next chapter has in store for me or my mom, I know that we will face it with love, compassion and a deep appreciation for the relationship with have with each other.

Strong is, knowing when you need help, knowing who you can count on and knowing when you need to lead and when you need to lean.

Lean on me . . . I'm strong.

Stripper Stats w/Pics

Otherwise known as a bikini blog! If I put the word bikini in the title I get more gawkers . . . hmmm . . no! The idea behind the bikini blogs was to 1. Help me become more comfortable with my body and accept it as it is, less than perfect, but mine. 2. To encourage, inspire and motivate others who have a lot of weight to lose, that you can have a somewhat normal shaped body without having to have surgery (maybe you will, maybe you won't). 3. To encourage those who have more than 23 % percent body fat that life goes on, enjoy wearing a bikini! Enjoy feeling sexy in the body you are in. Don't think you have to get to an 18% body fat (or lower) in order for your life to start! Start living the life you want TODAY! Whatever size you are at. This day will not repeat. You get this day to be this size and do these things. You will never be exactly this weight doing exactly these things ever again.

That last line is one that has played in my mind every since I started this journey almost two years ago. When I was training for my first half marathon, I thought I will never again be 220 lbs. training for my first half marathon . . . I better make it count. And I did. When I trained for my full marathon, I thought I will never again be 165lbs. training for full marathon ever again. It doesn't have to be a BIG event, it can be a daily event. I will never again wear this dress and have it fit EXACTLY the same. My two big favorites are coming up in less than 7 weeks! I will be wearing my new size 8 dress (too big in the top, and sticking to my hips right now) to my son's graduation! And the following day I will be wearing a dress that is now too big for me and needs to be altered to his wedding. I get ONE shot at those events. I don't get a do over at those pictures that will be in our family album for years to come. I want to do that to the best of my current ability, knowing I gave my all.

Okay, here my two week progress stats:
Starting Weight: 161.4
Current Weight: 156.8
Weight loss: 4.6 lbs.
Bra Band: down .5
Bicep: down .25
Waist: down . . . drum roll . . . 2.25 inches! YES!
Hip: down . . . 1.75
Thigh: down .25

I was not going to post my pictures, because I was not sure the difference showed. But, then my husband put them up on a big screen and enlarge the side by sides and showed me exactly were changes were happening and this morning measurements confirmed his observations. Oh, and my saddlebag area is getting smaller! That is my widest area, wider than my hip. It is also the are that I really need to shrink a little more to make my dresses fit nicely for graduation and wedding events. Shrink . . shrink!

Look right above my bikini bottom (muffin top) is shrinking! So are the side curves of my waist.

Top inner thigh at the hip flexor is getting leaner.

A little muscle is trying to show right above my knee and the saddlebags are shrinking!

There ya go! That's what can happen in two weeks! Just two weeks and I've lost a total of 5 inches . . . at the measurement points . . . who knows at all the points inbetween! I am excited for the next two weeks and feel like a pro at this! I'm already planning my follow up challenge for myself! I think I'm going to do the Oxygen Bikini Body 28 day plan combined with Cooler 1/Cooler 2/Stripped menu plan. If anyone is interested in doing that plan with me, let me know. The Oxygen Bikini Body edition is on newstands now with Jamie Eason on the cover. It is book-a-zine (paperback book style magazine). The new plan will start for me on April 25th.

I'm looking forward to an amazing summer, and a new swimsuit! Bring on the flip flops and sunshine!

Sunday Stripper

Weekends seem to go so quickly. I cherish every moment and try to get the most our of every minute I have with my husband. I feel torn between what I want to do and what I need to do. I'm sure others have this same dilemma. The laundry, housework and grocery shopping get in the way of writing menus, making new recipes, reading and research, which get in the way of time to take a nap and hang out with my hubby.

Thankfully my hubby is totally supportive and super understanding about all that I am trying to accomplish, learn and do. I feel a heightened call to spread the word about the benefits of clean eating. My body and health have continued to change, heal and improve beyond what I could have ever imagined even a month ago. Going to the Arnold Festival and meeting Tosca and the eat clean team solidified some things for me and helped me to take things to the next level. I have been eating clean for over a year now. When I had the chance to go meet Tosca, I intensified my commitment and went on cooler 1 program from her Recharged book. I loved the foods and felt fabulous. I was able to go to the Arnold that day knowing I had done everything I could to look and feel my best on that day. I felt confident, strong and healthy.

At the Arnold I purchased the Stripped book and made the commitment to stick with it for 28 days. Just a couple months ago, I had resigned myself to the idea that my body was at it's set point and was as good as it was going to get. Don't get me wrong, I was not unsatisfied with my body, just not looking for more improvement. Well, after cooler 1 I could see differences. They were minor, but there were changes. Now after week two of the Stripped program, I can tell you there is no such thing as Too Late for Change.

Since I have this 'calling' to share this message, I need to make sure that I am always prepared for any opportunity that might come along. How sad would it be to find out that a dream come true opportunity was available to me and I was not in the shape that I needed to be to take advantage of that opportunity. I think of my oldest son, when he was on the kidney transplant list. It was important to do all the pre-prep before he was listed to make sure he would be ready for the opportunity when presented. All immunizations were updated and his wisdom teeth were removed. These things were important to minimize risks of infections and illnesses after a transplant. Once he was listed, it was important to keep him healthy, strong and ready to an opportunity for a better quality of life. We couldn't just focus for a week, or a month . . . this was a lifestyle. Living life always prepared for the chance of a life time.

Let's talk about food, because it is improving my quality of life!

Breakfast this morning was Be the Maser of Your Fritattata! Love it when I get so many choices. You get to pick your choice of proteins from a list, your veggies, and your starch. I selected farro for my grain since I make a whole pot and keep it in the fridge and it is my favorite grain! Protein was grilled chicken. Veggies were spinach and mushrooms. Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!

Snack:

Apple, pear, blueberry and walnut with a squirt of lemon . . . delicious! This is now one of my favorite snacks!

Lunch:

Scallops a la Plancha with Sauteed Asparagus and Peppers! So tasty! I only had the baby scallops. I loved this lunch.

In the late afternoon I went to the gym to do my bicep, tricep and ab workout. It was a long set. I was late getting my afternoon snack. As I left the gym I was just amazed at how beautiful the day was. The sun was warm and there was a slight breeze. I wanted to be outside! I was excited when I got home to find out that my hubby and doggy were more than willing to join me for a walk. I made my snack and ate it as we went for a leisurely two mile walk. Oh, snack was albacore tuna with an apple chopped up in it.

Dinner was equally delicious today!

Stir Fried Ginger Beef! I had leftover Chinese 5 Spice organic steak in the freezer so I used it for this dish. I do not own a wok and was missing a few of the spices used in the recipe, but it was simple to improvise. I sauteed mushrooms, yellow squash, orange pepper, garlic and ginger with green onions. It was a good day!

When an opportunity is presented to you, will you be ready for it? Or will you be wishing that you hadn't given up. Is your health, your body, your goals more important than those 'things' you think you are giving up . . . like fried foods, snack foods, sugar. I won't sell myself short. I won't give up on my dreams or sell them out to something as silly as convenience. It was inconvenient to take my son to countless doctor appointments, procedures and blood draws in labs. It was inconvenient and painful for him to go through all the tests and being catheterized countless times in his young life. But, it was all worth it when we got the call that there was a kidney available. I will be ready for the next opportunity . . . will YOU?

Stripping on the Run!

Friday is my new day off and Saturday is just such a full day for me! I had planned ahead, cooked ahead and was prepared, for the most part. I was able to get my errands done on Friday with my snacks in tow! Dinner was later than I would prefer on both Friday and Saturday nights. I was super hungry by the time the food was ready!

Let me back up and talk about Friday. My day off! I got lots done. Cleaned out my closet and dresser drawers in the morning. I seriously stripped down that closet, getting rid of anything that I either didn't like or just did not fit me any more! I ended up with just 2 pair of jeans, two pair of slacks, one button down shirt, a handful of knit pull overs, a couple dresses and a couple jackets I had just recently bought. My closet is stripped down!

I took 5 large garbage bags of clothes to the Goodwill. While I was there I picked up two new pair of pants, a couple new tops and two new spring jackets. All in my favorite tropical spring colors! I love turquoise, teal, hot pink, watermelon, kelly green, and bright whites!

On Fridays I teach yoga at noon and wanted to get my Boom Boom Pow workout in afterward. So, I packed my lunch and took it with me to the gym! That way I could do my workout and keep going from the gym to town to run the rest of my errands! On the run I forget to take pictures. Sorry friends. I do have some and will share those with you.

Friday Breakfast! My favorite!

Take Me on Vacation Oatmeal - Almond milk, mango, cashews, unsweetened coconut!

Snack

Two hardboiled eggs w/garlic pepper and a pear!

Lunch

No picture! It was albacore tuna with broccoli sprouts and romaine lettuce.

Afternoon snack - no picture! It was cashews and strawberries! YUM!

Dinner: Baked Tilapia and Vegetables a la Grecque w/brown rice

I was totally unsure I wanted to bother with the Veggie recipe. But, I was intrigued and decided to give it a try. Basically you 'pickle' the veggies in a combination of spices and vinegars for 4+ hours before dinner and eat them cold. I really liked it! It made my house smell like Easter! and it did make me pucker a little with the first bite or two. But I would repeat the recipe! Great summer side dish!

Night time snack: Apple w/Sunflower seed butter

Saturday morning breakfast: Cooked 10 grain cereal w/blueberries, raspberries, cinnamon and almond milk. It was supposed to be quinoa, but I'm not a fan of it as a breakfast cereal.

After breakfast, hubby and I went for a 6 mile run! Such a brisk morning here in Indiana! Brrrr! By the time we got dressed and ready to head out it was time for my mid morning snack. So, I packed it to take on the run with me. It was a mix of nuts, seeds and berries. I did deviate here. I used some dried cranberries and blueberries to make a trail mix. I used raw pecans, cashews and pumpkin seeds. It was yummy! Our pace was great for a long run! Super pleased with my running progress after taking most of the winter off from long runs.

Lunch was a tabbouleh: Cooked Farro (supposed to be quinoa), chopped cucumber, chopped tomato, olive oil and balsamic vinegar

After lunch hubby and I went shopping at my favorite girl store! Victoria's!!! I needed new house friendly pajamas and I had a $10 off coupon and a coupon for some free panties! It was time to get new jammies! My hubby was tired of seeing me walking around in my size 1x cotton knit pajama pants with the crotch between my knees and the drawstring drawn up like a pair of blinds. He made me throw the old ones away and get new ones. I don't have a problem with that.

emoticon Pretty things always make me smile!

While we were at the mall, I got a new pair of Puma shoes for weightlifting. They have flat firm soles that give me better contact with the the ground and a firmer surface to push off of with I do heavy squats. Love them! Oh, and they are white with turquoise piping! Love!

Snack was cucumbers and humus. Which I ate while waiting my turn to get a foot massage! It was a little treat from my hubby, which I had not expected. We were in side by side recliners getting our feet messaged by this fabulous gifted Asian men as Kenny G was playing! Nice! Very nice!

Dinner was Bison burger w/grilled brussel sprouts and leeks. Because we were late getting home from shopping, I was late getting dinner on. I'm sorry, no picture! I was busy grilling and then eating!!!! YUMMY! So, Yummy!

Oh, one more picture! My new workout shirt came in the mail!

Oh . . . .I also got two new dresses at the mall. They are so cute! I will wear them to the graduation events for my son in 7 weeks! However, it means I have only 7 weeks to shrink these hips!!! Do you hear that hips? It is on!!! The bottom part of this hour glass must shrink!!! I could not get the dresses in a larger size because the top was too big in the size 10's. They fit, just would like a little more room in the hip. It's on!!! I can do this!

Eat clean! Lift mean! Get lean! Go!

Simply Stripped

I am enjoying the simplicity of this morning as I sit at my home office desk. My desk is right under a double window that faces east. I'm feeling a little joyful and melancholy as I watch the sun coming up over the tree line. I'm thinking of facing the east, moving towards what I love and my friends and family 'back east'

I am a Virginia girl through and through. Born and raised in the Northern Virginia area. The people nearest and dearest to me (other than my husband and sons) are in that area. I love the mountains, the rivers, the places, the smells, the foods, the people. Everything about life seems to run smoother for me when I am there. The sun shines brighter and I smile bigger when I'm there.

But, I am here, in Indiana. I have been here for four years and will most likely be here for another year or two. So, I am surrounding myself with the things that keep me connected to what I love. Pictures, colors, textures, anything that says welcome friends. Yesterday I bought myself a special place setting just for my desk. I pack my lunch and snacks every day and most days eat at my desk. I bought a placemat, small plate, bowl and matching mug.

Love it! And the card of the two girls hugging is from Amy, so I feel like we are having breakfast together this morning watching the sun rise in the east.

Today is the start of a new month and a new chapter for me in so many ways. This marks the beginning of my part time status at my job. I will have one day off each week and I will be going into work an hour later. I am using the time to start my day at a lower pace, enjoy the sunrise, count my blessings and fully digest my breakfast. I will also get in a morning lower body workout, make a trip to the Goodwill and teach yoga at noon. Mostly this day off is to help me to have a day that I focus attention on writing, reading and researching for some of the future things I am working on. I am working on writing recipes and ideas about clean eating on a budget, how to make your exercise/nutrition work together towards your goals, and I'm working on getting things in general more streamlined and simplistic.

But I gotta get moving! So, let's eat!

Protein smoothie w/mango and blueberries. The blueberries and a banana were supposed to be in my smoothie. However, I discovered someone ate the last banana after I went to bed. And, I would rather chew some food instead of putting it all in the smoothie. This was yummy, sweet and felt like a treat.

It looks like yesterday was my day of substitutions! LOL! Two hardboiled eggs with Organics garlic pepper on them. And a bowl of watermelon (it was supposed to be the melon popsicles made with watermelon and cantaloup)

Tasty Naked Wonton Soup! Hot, steamy delicious and surprisingly filling. I was concerned with the amount of liquid foods I was scheduled to have and the lower about of meat source proteins in the day that I would feel hungry, but I did not.

Strawberries and cashews for afternoon snack

And this may not look appealing, but it was delicious! Butternut squash Farro 'risotto' with black truffle oil! Delicious, rich and satisfying! I felt stuffed!

Time for me to scoot out the door to the gym and get this day rolling! I leave you with a fun shot from my photo session.

Be blessed, be beautiful, be YOU!
